Phillips Connect has launched ContainerVision, a solar-powered camera system designed to provide shippers and carriers with near-real-time visibility into the inside of intermodal containers.
 

The technology is designed to capture images when container doors are opened, giving logistics operators a visual record of loading, unloading and potential unauthorised access. Unlike conventional tracking devices that primarily provide location and status information, ContainerVision adds visibility into what is happening inside the container.
 

The camera is designed for the demanding environment of intermodal transportation. Phillips Connect says the unit is solar powered, tamper resistant and protected by a reinforced metal enclosure, allowing it to remain inside containers as they move through different stages of the supply chain.

📦 Beyond location tracking

ContainerVision is also designed to provide information about cargo activity and available container space. The system can capture images following door-opening events and use visual information to identify people, cargo, dunnage and available floor space.
 

For shippers and carriers, this could provide additional information when investigating cargo-security incidents, loading discrepancies or unexpected container access.

🔐 A new layer of cargo security

Cargo can pass through multiple hands between origin and destination, making it difficult to determine exactly when an issue occurred. Visual records from inside the container could provide additional evidence around door-opening events and help operators understand what happened during a shipment.
 

The technology could also support more efficient container utilisation by helping operators determine whether a container is loaded, partially occupied or ready for its next movement without relying entirely on physical inspection.
